A skylight transforms a dark room into a bright, open space โ but only if it's installed correctly. Skylights are roof penetrations, and roof penetrations are where leaks start. Pinon Hills Roofing & Maintenance installs skylights the right way: structural curb framed between rafters, ice-and-water shield on all four sides, step flashing and counter-flashing integrated into the shingle field, and a watertight seal verified from inside the attic.
VELUX, Fakro, and Sun-Tek are the skylight brands we install most in Pinon Hills. Each offers fixed and vented options, tempered and laminated glass, and blinds and shades built into the unit. We help you select the right size and type for your roof pitch, room layout, and ventilation needs.
Our Skylight Installation Process
Site Assessment
We assess your roof from above and inside the attic. We locate the trusses and rafters, check the roof deck sheathing condition, and identify the best skylight placement for natural light based on sun angle, room layout, and roof pitch.
Roof Opening & Framing
Precise opening cut through the roof deck. Structural curb framed between trusses with load-bearing headers. Every cut edge of the sheathing sealed. The curb is the structural foundation โ we don't skimp on the framing.
Seal Integration
Self-adhering ice-and-water shield on all curb faces. Step flashing along both sides lapped under each shingle course. Head flashing at the top, apron flashing at the bottom. Waterproof sealant at every overlap and transition. The flashing makes or breaks the installation.
Final Seal & Trim
Skylight unit set into the curb and flange sealed to the roof deck. Shingles re-laid around the unit with proper overlap. Inside, rigid insulation installed around the light shaft to prevent condensation. Interior trim finished. Watertight verified from the attic.

Why Choose Pinon Hills Roofing & Maintenance for Skylight Installation?
Insulated Light Shafts
Every skylight installation includes rigid foam insulation around the light shaft. Uninsulated shafts cause condensation and energy loss. We insulate, vapor-seal, and trim the interior for a finished look.
Structural Curb Framing
We frame a proper structural curb between your rafters with doubled headers. No flimsy brackets or foam shims. The curb carries the skylight load and provides a solid base for the flashing system.
Roofer-Installed, Not Handyman
Pinon Hills Roofing & Maintenance is a roofing contractor, not a general handyman. Skylights are roof penetrations โ they require roofing expertise, proper flashing materials, and waterproofing knowledge. That's what we do every day.
Code Compliant
Every skylight installation meets CA building code for structural framing, energy performance, and egress requirements. Permits pulled when required.
